Cooperative Management of Scholarly Databases

Thank you for your interest in the Database Information System (DBIS). Currently, over 400 participating institutions use DBIS, which offers libraries, specialised information services and research institutions cooperative management of scholarly databases:

  • Simple administration and uncomplicated license management of the institution’s own DBIS view
  • Easy reuse of licenses
  • Options for adapting the DBIS interface to the local corporate design
  • Quality assurance and up-to-dateness through cooperative data maintenance
  • Use and maintenance of title data, including URLs, by all participating DBIS user institutions
  • Export options for further use
  • Participation in DBIS training courses and topic-specific consultation hours, which are offered several times a year
  • Exchange within the DBIS community, e.g., via mailing list and the annual DBIS conference

DBIS offers your users:

  • Information on 14,000 academic databases in all subject areas, including 6,000 freely accessible ones
  • an overview of freely accessible databases and databases licensed by the relevant institution
  • Uniform access to fee-based and free databases via an intuitive, institution-specific user interface
  • User and administrator interfaces in German and English
  • Traffic light symbols visualize accessibility in the participating institutions
